About Charlotte
In the last semester of my undergraduate degree at Columbia College Chicago, I began to work as a research assistant studying youth civic media production. This research introduced me to new concepts that my previous education had only touched on, including the importance of civic engagement, media literacy, community engagement, and media representation. As a result, I decided to pursue further studies and continue this work as a Civic Media MA candidate. In this program, I have continued to study participatory methods for community engagement and creating civic media and how to apply these principles while working with youth. To investigate the changes to media education during the COVID-19 pandemic and remote learning, in the Summer of 2021, I conducted research exploring the civic engagement outcomes of youth media production. I have also conducted academic research studying civic engagement and representation on social media, focusing on disability and gender representation.
